Library Technology Assistant Programs (LTA)
Joliet Junior College (Joliet) has an ongoing LTA program for students served by the JJC district. Although most classes are on-campus, JJC is starting to offer classes in the Kankakee area. Northern Illinois University (DeKalb) offers classes through videoconferencing to all three PALS service centers beginning June 2006. Coursework, which is geared toward those working in school libraries, will lead to endorsement, certification, or an MS in Instructional Technology. University of Wisconsin/Madison offers an ALA accredited MLS program in the PALS area. A required all-day on-campus orientation is held in the late summer, but most of the class attendance would take place via videoconferencing from the three PALS Service Centers (Rockford, Coal Valley and Shorewood) and through online classes. Tuition is usually similar to the Wisconsin in-state resident tuition.
