FirstSearch Proxy Server
PALS libraries which are not full members of PrairieCat can use our grant-funded EZproxy server to allow patrons to log into FirstSearch from home with their library card numbers.
EZproxy access can be set up only for libraries which use sufficiently patterned barcodes/numbers for their library cards (e.g., 14 digit barcode numbers, and the first 5 digits are the same for all patrons).
For more information, contact Jeff Mahan or Brian Smith.
Full members of PrairieCat have the ability to provide remote patron access to FirstSearch via the NISO Circulation Interchange Protocol (NCIP). Instructions for setting up NCIP-based access to FirstSearch are available in Technical Bulletin 18 (login required) on the PrairieCat Secure Site.
Funding for this grant was awarded by the Illinois State Library, a Division of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, under the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA).
