FirstSearch

The Illinois State Library provides all PALS libraries in Illinois with access to several databases through OCLC's FirstSearch.

Full members of PrairieCat are able to provide patrons with remote access to FirstSearch using the NISO Circulation Interchange Protocol (NCIP). For instructions on setting up NCIP access to FirstSearch, see Technical Bulletin 18 on the PrairieCat Secure Site.

Other PALS libraries which have patterned library-card barcode numbers may be able to use a PALS-hosted proxy server to provide patrons with remote access to FirstSearch. For information about this free service (funded through an LSTA grant), contact Jeff Mahan or Brian Smith.
